Donation ceremony of the model of Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge held at SWJTU

The donation ceremony of the model of Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge was held at the National Engineering Laboratory in Geohazard Prevention Technology for Land Transportation, Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) at 2:30pm, March 26, 2021. The participants of this ceremony included Luo Bing, Deputy General Manager of China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd., Zhu Zhihu, Deputy Chief Economist and Minister of Human Resources, Song Yuliang, Director of Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), Zhu Jianmei, Vice President of SWJTU, Tan Jianxin, Director of External Cooperation and Liaison Office, Deputy Director Wen Peng, Chen Yanfeng, Director of Admissions and Career Development Office, Liu Xueyi, Party Committee Secretary of the School of Civil Engineering (SCE), and Deputy Secretary Zhou Xi. This school-enterprise cooperation is a measure taken by SCE to further implement the “three-wide education” comprehensive pilot reform. A series of activities will be held to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of SWJTU, including the model donation, bridge engineering book donation, awarding ceremony of Practice and Internship Base for Students, appointment of career-planning supervisor, and face-to-face communication between bridge experts and students, etc.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the host introduced the participants and made a brief introduction to the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge. Teachers and students who participated in the ceremony learned more about the construction process as well as the remarkable achievements of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge by watching a short video. The Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge is the world’ s first cable-stayed road-rail bridge with a span of more than one kilometer, which is a milestone in the history of the bridge development. It is a major breakthrough that the road-rail dual-use cable-stayed bridge (main span) has been raised from 630 meters to 1,092 meters in one step, marking the beginning of the thousand-meter era of the road-rail dual-use cable-stayed bridge.

All guests unveiled the 1:400 scale model of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge and took a group photo.

On behalf of the corporation, Mr. Luo presented a 1:11600 bridge model to SWJTU and Mrs. Zhu issued the donation certificate and then took a group photo.

Mr. Song donated books on bridge engineering to SWJTU, and Mr. Tan issued certificates to the corporation.

Mr. Chen and Mr. Luo attended the awarding ceremony of Practice and Internship Base for Students of SCE.

Mr. Liu issued the certificate of Career-planning Supervisor to Luo Bing and Zhu Zhihu.

Next, Mr. Luo briefly presented the relationship between the corporation and SWJTU, and the basic information of China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd. The construction of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, known for the saying “A bridge will fly to span the north and south, turning a deep chasm into a thoroughfare”, has signaled the establishment of China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd., which went through five development stages of learning to build, working hard, integrating into market, catching up with other countries, and finally standing ahead the world after unrelenting efforts of several generations, and also nurtured the “five milestone-like” spirits of staying true to the mission, working with stamina and diligence, sticking to inheritance and innovation, putting the quality first and pursuing high speed. And now, we prompt remarkable achievements after many years of struggling, which has effectively promoted Chinese bridges to the center of the world bridge industry arena steadily. Mr. Luo also expressed his best wishes for better cooperation and more frequent communication between China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd. and SWJTU.

At last, Mrs. Zhu, on behalf of SWJTU, expressed her sincere gratitude to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. and China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd. for their support to the talent development. SWJTU has kept a long and deep connection with China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. and China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd., with a lot of cooperation being carried out in the areas of technology and innovation research, school-enterprise collaboration oriented model, student employment and career development, presenting a solid foundation for and vast potential for future cooperation. Mrs. Zhu pointed out that it’ s particularly meaningful for SWJTU to carry out the wind engineering research and have the bridge model of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge for a unique teaching model of SCE, which could enable students to have an intuitive understanding, and then enhance the interaction and effectiveness of classroom instruction. Following the talent-driven innovation, she expressed her expectations on the close cooperation in technological innovation and collaborative education, etc., between SWJTU and China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. and China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd. for cultivating first-class talents and then making progress with united efforts. Finally, she wished a new success for the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. and China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd.
