The Mid-Autumn Festival symposium for graduate students of School of Civil Engineering (SCE), SWJTU was held in the Conference Room 1237 of the Civil Engineering Building in Jiuli Campus in the afternoon of September 18. Participants in this symposium included teachers from SCE, Shi Ying, Shang Yao, Yu Xia, Cai Junyu, Li Mengran and Qiang Bowen, and representatives of doctoral students and master students from different research fields.

This symposium kicked off in a relaxed and happy atmosphere with various things prepared by the teachers for the students including fruits, moon cakes, mineral water, mouse pads and card holders with the cartoon image and theme of the SCE “Red Little Earth”.

At the beginning, Mr. Shi expressed his sincere concern for the new students: whether they had encountered some difficulties in the school life and whether they could adapt to the new environment. The teachers also took this opportunity to communicate with the new students, listen to their opinions concerning the school work and their personal lives, and extend their holiday greetings to the students in advance.

Then, the student representatives took the floor one after another. Some students put forward their views on scientific research after the training plan was revised this year. Then, Mr. Shi showed his confidence toward the relevant new courses and expressed his opinion that the civil engineering industry is now facing transformation and upgrading, with opportunities and challenges coexisting. Huang Qiqi, a master student from grade 2021, made a comparison between Jiuli campus and Xipu campus, and expressed her own wish that she could make efforts to improve herself and make progress in both learning and personal life. Mr. Shi expressed his appreciation for Huang’s speech and hoped that all students will keep the “double strictness” spirit of SWJTU in minds.

Tan Zhuang, a doctoral student from grade 2021, first analyzed his transition from a master student to a doctoral student, and then shared his suggestions for the junior students: to change the way of learning and living by themselves, to pay attention to the cutting-edge directions in civil engineering industry and catch up on interdisciplinary trends. At last, he said that one has to work hard to achieve his own goal. Gradually, the symposium became more relaxing and joyful after Tan sang a popular song for all teachers and students on a whim.

At last, Mr. Shi, on behalf of all teachers from SCE, expressed the sincere gratitude for the student representatives taking the time to participate in the symposium. Also, he reminded all students of protecting themselves and report their travel information on time. Finally, this symposium ended successfully with the best wishes for the students a happy Mid-Autumn Festival from all teachers.
